The piece below that has been adapted for this edition of this series was sent by an acquaintance and not sure who the original author is, but the illustration in the writing further drives home our point for this series;
I found this analogy interesting…made me really think this morning.
You are holding a cup of coffee when someone comes along and bumps into you or shakes your arm, making you spill your coffee everywhere.
Why did you spill the coffee? “Well because someone bumped into me, of course!”
Wrong answer. You spilled the coffee because there was coffee in your cup. Had there been tea in the cup, you would have spilled tea. Whatever is inside the cup, is what will spill out.
Therefore, when life comes along and shakes you (which WILL happen), whatever is inside you will come out. It’s easy to fake it, until you get rattled.
So we have to ask ourselves… “What’s in my cup?”
When life gets tough, what spills over? Humanness, humanity, joy, gratefulness, peace and humility? Or anger, bitterness, hatred, harsh words and reactions?
You choose! Your choice!
But it is whatever you have allowed into you and stored that you will spill, and you should and be willing to take responsibility for whatever you spill out from the cup of your life. I choose humanness, and will make all efforts to fill myself with things that will not harm, hurt or/and injure others, irrespective of what others say to me, of/about my neighbour – the decision is really mine – I choose to be human, because that is what and who I am, first and foremost.
There is no culture, race, ethnic group older than being human.
God bless you.
God bless Nigeria.
